IMATS Toronto Haul 2014

I have dreamed of going to IMATS for years, and recently that dream finally became a reality for me! My friend and I ended up staying for 6 HOURS!! I have to admit, I probably went a little overboard with my haul. But to be honest, it is so hard for me to decide in the heat of moment! If I could do it over again, I would probably research the retailers and prices more ahead of time, because a lot of the items I picked up were close to the retail price. Some items however did have a significant discount, and it was great to discover some new brands!

Like some other blogs that I have read recommended, it is smart to bring some water and a snack. Also bring lots of cash and a debit or credit card. Most booths will not charge tax if you’re paying cash, and some booths like MAC were only accepting cards (I forget if it was debit or credit!). Some blogs also recommended bringing a small cross body bag which I kind of wish I did, because although my larger tote bag had room for all of my things, it got pretty heavy carrying on my shoulder all day!

Overall it was a great experience, and I would highly recommend checking it out if you love beauty and cosmetics.

Here is a detailed list of everything I picked up:

 – BH Cosmetics 88 Color Palette Matte Eyeshadow

– OCC Lip Tars in Feathered, Memento and Black Metal Dahlia

– Jordane Cosmetics Lipstick in #8093 Dusty Rose and Ultra Fine Lip Liner in 251 Blackberry

– Velour Mink Lashes in “Got It From My Momma”

MAC’s Object of Affection Gold + Beige Pigments

I recently picked up a few things from the MAC Holiday 2014 Collection. The one I will be showing swatches of and reviewing is the Objects of Affection Gold + Beige Pigments. It retails for $42 CDN and $35 USD. Of the 3, I knew this was the one I had to try as I love neutral shadows. As soon as I swatched them it was a done deal – these colours are GORGEOUS! 4 of them are pigments and one is a glitter.

(From left to right) “Lithe” (limited edition) is described as a peachy nude. Absolutely beautiful, it is a great highlight colour and looks great on its own and even more vivid with water or Fix+.

“English Gilt” (limited edition) is described as a bright champagne. I love this one as well and I think I will use it a lot. Again, It is great on it’s own and even better with water or Fix+.

“Pretty It Up” (limited edition) is described as a dirty olive with pearl. This is one of my favourites, it seems very unique. It is a great eyelid colour and looks like 2 different shades with and without water or Fix+.

“Gold” (permanent) is described as a sparkly chunky gold. This is not recommended for the eyes as it is a glitter. I found it looks about the same with and without water or Fix+. I was told this can be used in nail polish or on the lips so I am excited to experiment with this one!

“Deep Brown” (permanent) is described as a dark chocolate brown. This is the only matte colour in the collection. It is a great colour for the crease and is more vivid with water or Fix+.

Left swatches were applied with water & right swatches were applied dry:

Overall I would have to say I really love this set. The colours are beautiful and very versatile. It is also a great value as the individual pigments in the same size retail for $12 CDN and $10 USD. These also last FOREVER, a little goes a long way. My 3 favourite colours are also limited edition, so if you get the chance I would definitely recommend picking this up (if you can get your hands on it)!

Today’s Look ft. Intriguing Scarlet Palette

Today I wanted to try something a little different, so I dug up an old eyeshadow palette that I haven’t used in a while. It’s from MAC’s 2008 Passions of Red Holiday collection, the “Intriguing Scarlet: 6 Warm Eyes” palette to be exact!

Anyways, on to how I got this look!

Face:  I started with L’oreal’s Youth Code BB Cream all over. Then I used MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer under the eyes and around the nose. I always prime my eyelids with MAC’s Bare Canvas Paint. Then I use MAC Mineralize Skinfinish all over to set.

For contouring I started with Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer to warm up my face, then used MAC’s Harmony blush in the hollows of my cheeks. Today I went with MAC’s Side Show You (The Simpsons Collection) blush and MAC’s Soft & Gentle highlight (I’ve been using this for years, it is AMAZING!!).

Brows: I use Anastasia’s Brow Powder Duo to fill in and shape my brows. In the areas that are a little more sparse, I go in with a light brown brow pencil by Essence Cosmetics.

Eyes: For the eyes I only used the colours in the left side of the palette. I used Sweet Joy which is a light frosted cream colour for all over the lid. Then I used Well Spiced which is a slightly sparkly terracotta colour in the crease. The last colour from the palette that I used is Real Drama which is a beautiful sparkly burgundy. I used that in the crease mostly on the outer corner. I also used a bit of Well Spiced and Real Drama along the lower lash line. Lastly for the shadow I used my favourite shadow for highlighting the brow and inner corner which is Phloof! by MAC.

For eyeliner I used Kat Von D Tattoo Liner which I have recently discovered and have been loving lately! I used a bit of Black Tie (a sparkly black shade by MAC) the smooth the lines of the liquid liner (although it’s STILL not perfect, I know!) For mascara I used L’oreal’s Voluminous Miss Manga.

Lips: This is Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Nude. I am not sure how I feel about the colour, but I think the formula is so great!

I hope you liked this look, thanks for reading!

Neutral MAC Lipstick Collection

MAC lipsticks have to be my all time favourite beauty product. There are so many beautiful colours and finishes. And of course that vanilla scent, it’s amazing!

I thought I would share my collection of neutral shades. My skin tone is quite fair, so I find it hard to wear neutral colours sometimes. Some of these are more wearable for me than others, but sometimes I find it hard to resist a beautiful shade, regardless how it may look on me!

From left to right: Viva Glam II, Kinda Sexy, Honey Love, Woodrose, Strip Poker, Hue.

Viva Glam II Satin

This shade is a brownish mauve nude. The satin finish is a little bit glossy with medium coverage. This is a newer shade in my collection, and I have to say I haven’t been wearing it too often! I think it is a beautiful shade, but I find it to be a little dark for me for everyday wear.

Kinda Sexy Matte

This shade is a brownish pink nude with a little bit of coral. The matte finish is beautiful and full coverage, as I find all MAC matte lipsticks are! I do not wear this one too often, but when I do I always get a lot of compliments. It is a great neutral if you are looking for something a little brighter.

Honey Love Matte

This shade is a neutral light beige nude. Same beautiful matte with full coverage. This is newer to my collection as well. On its own I find it to be a little too brown, so I like to wear it on top of other darker lipsticks to create some dimension. As shown in my previous post, I really like it on top of Mehr. It is a beautiful nude, maybe better suited for someone with a little bit darker skin tone.

Woodrose Lustre (Limited Edition)

This shade is a light brownish mauve nude. It has a glossy finish with light coverage. This is newer in my collection, and I haven’t worn it a lot. But when I do, I really love it! It is really subtle, and also looks great paired on top of matte lipsticks. To me, this one looks a lot like the Honey Love swatch, but the finish makes a huge difference!

Strip Poker Lustre (Limited Edition)

This shade is a peachy light nude. Same beautiful matte finish with full coverage (can you tell I love the matte finishes!). Again, it is one I like to mix with other colours when I want to lighten them up or create dimension. I feel like on its own this one washes me out a bit.

Hue Glaze

This shade is a pinky nude. The glaze finish looks very glossy and is quite light. This is the first MAC lipstick I ever purchased, and to this day it is still one of my favourites! To me, it is the perfect nude, and is great for everyday wear. I have repurchased this one several times, and plan to over and over again!

What are your favourite MAC nude lipsticks? Are there any I should try that work on fair skin tones?

The Look

I always get questions and comments about my makeup, so I decided I would share my tips!

Here is what I used to get this look;

– Yves Rocher Hydra Vegetal: I always start with a good moisturizer. This one keeps my skin hydrated all day and smells great too!
– MAC Mineralize Moisture Foundation: Used Urban Decay’s Optical Blurring brush to apply.
– MAC Pro Long Wear Concealer: I find the best applicator is a sponge. I got a package of them  from Forever 21 for $1!
– MAC Mineralize Skinfinish – Lightly brushed all over to set the foundation.
– Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo
– Anastasia Contour Kit: Used “Fawn” mixed with a little bit of “Java” for contouring and “Sand” for a highlight.
– Clinique “Smoldering Plum” Blush
– L’oreal Carbon Black Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eye Liner
– YSL Baby Doll Volume Mascara
– MAC Paints in “Bare Canvas”: Used all over the eyelids as an eyeshadow base.
– MAC’s Eyeshadow in “Phloof!”: Great staple, used to highlight the brow bone and the inner corner of the eye.
– Naked Basics 2 Palette by Urban Decay: Mixture of “Stark”, “Frisk”, and “Cover” in the crease. Used “Skimp” all over the lip.
– MAC Lipstick: I used “Mehr” all over and then put “Honey Love” on top, closer to the inside of the lips.

Stay tuned for more make up looks! Please comment below if you have any questions.
